The idea for the Just Keep Painting Project started as a joke in my own head early December 2018. You know, those empty promises you make to yourself, but never vocalize? Things like “Maybe I should get a gym membership.” or “I should really organize the garage.” The only difference this time was that as the end of the year drew closer the idea in my head became more solidified. It went from a nebulous daydream to a solid “Gee, I’d better go get something to paint on and dig my paints and brushes out of the garage.” Now it’s more of a personal challenge. Maybe next year I should do a “Just Keep Walking” project.
Just Keep Painting is really about just getting better. Daily. On December 31st 2019 when I finish the 365th painting it will be very interesting to look back at all the pieces from beginning to end and see the journey.
While many paintings are completed using reference taken throughout the American Southwest, most are painted from reference in my immediate surroundings on the North Island of New Zealand.
